Salmon Season Is Beginning to Heat Up

One of the biggest stories this week has been the continued improvement in the salmon bite. While lake trout continue to provide outstanding action on both our morning and afternoon charters, we’re seeing more salmon showing up each week and are anticipating one of the best stretches of the season just around the corner.

The next couple of weeks are traditionally some of our favorite days of the year, and we’re expecting another strong push of salmon to arrive at any time. If you’ve been waiting for salmon season, now is the time to start planning your trip.

Steelhead have been a little quieter this week, but they’re always capable of showing up and adding another exciting surprise to the day.

Captain’s Fishing Report

For those interested in this week’s fishing patterns, we’ve been finding the most consistent action in 90 to 150 feet of water throughout the familiar summer hotspots around West Grand Traverse Bay.

Salmon fishing has been best on meat rigs and spoons. Blue and green meat rigs have been especially productive, while Moonshine glow spoons and Michigan Stinger spoons have been standout performers as the morning bite develops.

Lake trout continue to provide steady action, with Hammerhead cowbells fished within the bottom 10 feet of the water column remaining one of our most dependable presentations throughout the week.
