Traverse City Fishing Report: Fantastic Summer Fishing Continues Despite Windy Conditions
Summer Fishing Remains Outstanding in Traverse City
If you’ve been thinking about booking a Traverse City fishing charter, now is a fantastic time to get out on the water. Even with several days of challenging wind and changing lake conditions, the fishing has remained excellent. Our guests continue to enjoy exciting action for lake trout, salmon, and even a few steelhead, making every trip a little different and keeping rods bending throughout the day.
One of our favorite trips this week included a young 7-year-old angler helping fill the cooler with a limit of lake trout, along with a beautiful salmon and steelhead. Watching families and young anglers experience this kind of success is what makes summer fishing in Traverse City so rewarding.
Fish Continue to Produce Throughout West Grand Traverse Bay
The fish have been spread throughout many of the familiar areas around West Grand Traverse Bay, giving us opportunities to adjust throughout the day as conditions changed. We found ourselves fishing anywhere from 50 feet of water out to nearly 200 feet, depending on the wind and where the fish were setting up.
This weeks stronger winds created one of the tougher bites of the season on Wednesday, but outside of that challenging day, fishing has been outstanding with consistent action throughout the bay.
Salmon and Lake Trout Continue to Bite
Salmon fishing continued to improve this week, with flasher and fly combinations on the divers producing our most consistent action. Bloody Nose spoon patterns also proved to be favorites for salmon and even picked up a few lake trout along the way.
Lake trout continue to provide dependable action, with Hammerhead cowbells remaining one of our most productive presentations. The steady trout bite has made for exciting trips while salmon activity continues to build as we move deeper into summer.
