Traverse City Fishing Report: Excellent Summer Fishing Continues
Traverse City Fishing Report: Excellent Summer Fishing Continues
Fishing has been very productive this week in Traverse City, with fish continuing to transition into their summer patterns throughout West Grand Traverse Bay. The bite has remained consistently strong, and we’re seeing excellent action on multiple species.
One of the biggest surprises has been the number of salmon showing up this early in the season. We’re not catching salmon on every trip yet, but the action has been consistent enough that it’s well worth giving them a shot first thing in the morning when conditions are favorable. Meat rigs on low divers and spoons on high divers have produced our best salmon bites before we transition into our outstanding lake trout program.
Lake trout fishing has been outstanding and continues to be the highlight of most trips. The usual suspects Hammerhead Cowbells in the bottom 5 feet paired on the downriggers, our long-line program has been producing consistently with 5- to 10-color lead cores, while 200- and 300-foot copper setups have also been taking fish. Michigan Stinger and Moonshine spoons have been some of our top producers throughout the week. We’re also still catching a few steelhead, adding another exciting bonus species to the mix. We have been targeting anywhere from 60-120 feet of water given time of morning and target species.
It was a hot and humid week across Northern Michigan, and the warm weather helped continue the transition into our summer fishing pattern. As summer settles in, we expect the excellent fishing to continue with outstanding lake trout action and more opportunities for salmon in the weeks ahead.
As we head into the holiday weekend, everyone at Storm Hawk Sport Fishing would like to wish you and your family a safe and Happy Fourth of July! We hope everyone enjoys the holiday, and we look forward to welcoming more anglers aboard for another great week of fishing on West Grand Traverse Bay.
