2015 Frankfort’s Battle At the Betsie 7th place

We had too much fun in Frankfort this weekend fishing the new Battle At the Betsie tournament. We even convinced a fellow Traverse City charter boat to come bring his boat out and try his luck! We ended up in 7th place in the main event as well as the 333 tournament, our goal was to place in the top 5 and it turned out we had the fish right behind the boat that would of shot us up the leader board into the top 3 if we managed to get it in the net. But that’s tournament fishing its part of the fun and excitement. Meat rigs, and flasher flys dominated our spread as we boated 8 salmon day 1 of the tournament and 6 salmon two trout day 2.

Frankfort Fishing Charters

Frankfort Fishing Charters:

Frankfort has been producing some great fishing! We boated 15 king salmon through the morning Big Weenie Brand Meat rigs, Flasher fly, and a few spoon bites. Started at the Herring hole and nothing too exciting to start the day, I decided to troll out north and found two good pods of fish basically right in front of the pier head of Frankfort out over 180-200 feet. We were able to work those fish through the last half of the morning by our selves as the other boats were fighting it out on the bank. Pictured below is a new Big Jon Sports spoon made by Michigan Stinger, it was the best spoon in the water on my boat fished on a 250 copper. If you want to get out and experience Frankfort fishing charters give me a call now!

Traverse City fishing trip

Traverse City Fishing Trip:

We had a unforgettable fishing trip this morning in Traverse City. The fish were biting from start to finish, we were able to play with techniques and spots and the fish kept biting. From 20 feet with planer boards to 200 feet of water bouncing bottom with meat rigs. Big Weenie Brand Spotted Dick was a stud early in the trip catching multiple nice trout. Once we slid in shallow the normal prospects kept getting bites Wonderbread, blue perch, green dolphin, Dreamsicle, orange crush. (Stinger, Warrior Lures, Dreamweaver)

Up north Fishing trip:

Had a fun afternoon with family on a up north fishing trip today! We went out for a boat ride and decided to try and catch one for dinner! It did not take long before we were hooked up and caught a nice healthy fish.

Fishing the Manitou Islands

Fishing the Manitou Islands:

Did a fun out of Leland fishing the Manitou Islands. We decided to target North Manitou. Had a slow start on the day but as we found them we really got them to bite good. We ended up with a dozen or so bites, mostly coming on meat rigs, a few on flasher fly, and two or three on spoons. Michigan Stinger UV Blue Dolphin took the spoon bites. Fished the northwest reef that extends off the island is where we found the bait and fish!!!

2015 Traverse City Trout Derby 3rd place

We had a good outing at the Traverse City Trout Derby today! Ended up in 3rd place in the event we had a great relaxed morning on the water. Lots of doubles and triples had the right trout that fit the slot limit by 8 A.M. we fished for steelhead the remainder of the day with zero success chasing after them. But that is ok Congrats to team “True Blue” from East Bay on the win!

Traverse City Fishing Report

Traverse City Fishing Report

Had a fantastic night. Caught a limit of Lake Trout, landed a Steelhead, and broke off a big brown trout right behind the boat. Fished the east side of West Bay. Started the evening in deeper water due to conditions best was 45-60 working my riggers tight to bottom. One down rigger was equipped with a Big Weenie Brand Grease Trap, the other had a double white crush Spin Doctor with a blue bubble fly. They both took bites didn’t seem to favor one or the other. Once we achieved our trout limit we switched gears went into 20-30 feet of water just pulling 4 planer boards hoping for a lucky brown trout or steelhead. And we got our chances and we caught a few trout as well, Dreamweaver’s Dreamsicle was the best on the shallow program, Michigan stinger NBK was good on a 3 color too.
