July 30 Traverse City Fishing Report

Traverse City Fishing Report:

Lake Trout fishing remains really good. We have been having a lot of fun catching some beautiful fish, averaging 20-28 inches and seeing some over 10 pounds! Fishing anywhere from 80-100 feet pulling cowbells, meat rigs, and spoons on long lines. The normal colors with blue, green, and white all doing well at times.

Salmon: there are more and more salmon coming especially now that we are approaching August. We already had one push of fish up the river according to a few friends that fish the Boardman. The “Hole” has been producing some salmon, but is has been really hit or miss. One morning you get a few bites next morning no action. The most consistent salmon action is coming along the walls fishing 100-120 feet of water. Later in the morning, try fishing over deep water 250-300 some suspended fish out there. Best luck this far has been meat rigs, and spoons. Big Weenie Brand “Spotted Dick Glow” “Spotted Dick UV” for meat rigs. As for spoons Green and Blue Dolphins have been good as well as the Moonshine RV series spoon.

Get out there and get bit!

July 26 fishing charter

Today was another glorious morning on West Bay. We were met by some stiff South West winds, and a light mist as I set lines. That mist quickly went out of our minds after we got a bite after all the lines were set. After that no mist the winds seemed to dissipate through the morning as we pecked away catching some fish. The bite was definitely a little slower than I expected but we still ended up with a nice box of Lake Trout, even caught a bonus smallmouth bass!

Another Limit Catch!

We encountered a lot of unexpected North wind this morning! We were supposedly through the worst of it after yesterdays big blow, and storms. But we were not as excited when we say the flags whipping in the wind. Traverse City is such a unique place to experience a fishing charter. With the wind absolutely whipping we were still able to get out and enjoy a great morning on the water. It was a little bumpy but it was no problem! No bites from any silver fish but we did extremely well on some world class lake trout! We decided to try for strictly for salmon the first two hours with no success. Made a move switched a few lures and the bite was on! We managed a 4 person limit in under two hours of fishing for Lake Trout! Traverse City fishing charters are going to continue to be great for the rest of the season! August sneaking up on us that means our annual salmon run is almost here as well!

North Wind Brings in more fish!

With the big north blow yesterday we were not sure what to expect as we went out this morning. We were after salmon for the first two hours, with not much success unfortunately. But we did manage to have two bites, one clean break off and one that pulled line and was gone. We made the switch to lake trout and it was game on. As I watched the fish finder through the morning I noticed more and more salmon compared to what we have been seeing. With the amount of current I feel they were turned off a little. I’m hoping with a little time let the water settle in we should  see some more consistent action on salmon!

Traverse City King Salmon

Traverse City King Salmon season is under way! We are not seeing many of them at this time but we there are some big fish showing up! We broke a personal record on any of my boats, even before when I was working on other boats mating growing up! A lot of hours and years on the water for this to be the biggest. I told my customer how special this fish was, so he will never forget it. He is going a head with getting the fish mounted! I was super happy for Mike and the crew, great family and we had a great trip! We are fishing primarily Lake Trout at this time but fishing Salmon as we fish trout. More and more salmon are going to be coming into West Bay, as we inch towards August! Give me a call to book the highlight of your summer!

Mid July Fishing Traverse City

Well here we are in the middle of summer all ready, crazy to think its mid July! With that being said the weather has been fantastic, and the fishing has been just as good all summer! My trip today was no exception we managed to get a big limit of lake trout in 2.5 hours of fishing. The fish were BIG too!! The biggest being just shy of 15 pounds and multiple fish around ten pounds! Now that is fun I don’t care who you are.  We have limited availability through the rest of the season, so if you want to book that perfect morning don’t wait. As we approach August we will start concentrating some more on the King of the lake. We are anticipating another good year for our annual salmon run. Give me a call to book your summer highlight!

July Fishing Report Traverse City Michigan

July Fishing Report Traverse City Michigan 2018:

Fishing for the month of July has continued to be good after the fantastic June we experienced! To start the month the fish have still been in the shallow water 30-50 feet daily it seemed they bite pretty good every trip I was out in those depths. Fishing pretty much all of the shore line south of Power Island all held fish. Now that the summer heat is setting, the fish are starting to get locked into they’re summer patterns. The last few days they have been sliding out into some deeper waters as the shallows have been warm surface temp today was 70 degrees I found 68 degree water all the way down to 60 feet! Now that is summer in Traverse City, Mi.

Try fishing along the “white walls” in 80-90 feet seems to be the best fishing the bottom 10 feet, most of the fish have been tight to bottom since they just made the move. The “Gravel Pit” has been holding some decent fish as well fishing the same water 80-100 feet has been producing. The “Island” green can has been holding a lot of fish, but seems to be a slower bite with the pressure it has been receiving with all the boat traffic daily.

Mostly catching lake trout but there have been some steelhead, salmon, even a few brown trout caught!

Great fishing continues on West Grand Traverse Bay

West Grand Traverse Bay continues to offer some fantastic fishing! The morning fishing has been absolutely superb! While the afternoons have been a little slower we are still able to put a nice cooler of fish together. As the weather has been great, the fishing has been keeping up! We have been catching mainly Lake Trout, but we have been catching some Steelhead, even some brown trout have been in the mix the last few days! Give me a call if you want to get out and fish West Grand Traverse Bay, while the weather is nice and fish are even better!

Sunday Funday!

While I wish I was fishing today, it is not always a bad thing to have some time to regroup the boat! I was in need of a day to spend a few hours working on organizing and tying new rigs to keep us on the fish. With the beautiful weather me, my wife Mackenzie, and of course our beautiful baby Myla are spending daddy’s day off at the office. I am looking forward to getting after it again in the morning with a clean, and organized boat! Hoping I will be able to find everything when its organized and where everything belongs! Tight lines everyone hope to see you on the water, I still have a few openings for the next two upcoming weeks. If you want to get out and experience some great charter fishing give me a call!

Wind is a challenge, we can overcome!

We decided to go for it as the wind was ripping across Traverse City. While the other boats wanted stay home, I was fortunate to have a hardy crew that wanted try their luck! As we went in search of some calmer water we figured out it was some rough stuff, roughest water I have encountered all season by far. As we went further north we tucked in by Power Island where it was still rough, but very fishable! After fishing an hour with no bites I wondered if we made the right call by coming out. Then it was game on we landed our first fish, we were hooting and hollering having a blast so excited we caught one. No sooner than when I got that line back in the water we had another bite, landed the second fish of the day! Then another, and another, and another, before you knew it we had a 5 man limit! It was a trip to remember as we contemplated on going back in when we got to where we needed to be. But we stuck it out and it paid off big time for my “hardheaded” self proclaimed crew!
