That is a wrap on the 4th annual “Salmon Camp” I had a great time as usual with these guys! Caught some really nice fish and got one cool photo of the gang all together! The Salmon are here in Traverse City, and they are only going to be more and more coming in!

Traverse City Fishing Report
The fishing this season thus far has been incredible. We have experienced some fantastic Lake Trout fishing from the first trip of the season. Of course we had a few slower trips with the slowest trip coming in with 3 Brown Trout, and 1 Lake Trout! That is still good fishing!
Currently we are still seeing great catches of Lake Trout and some salmon. We seem to be getting salmon bites consistently every morning, not a lot but enough to usually are able to put one in the boat! But the Lake Trout fishing has been nothing short of phenomenal this whole season. We boated the seasons biggest Lake Trout just two days ago weighing in at 17 pounds!
As August grows older, we are going to be seeing more and more salmon come into the bays. We will shift focus from Lake Trout and concentrate more and more on the salmon once I see better numbers of them. I am looking forward to the last few weeks of the season and hope to see you on the water!

Joe called with one request! He wanted to catch his first Great Lakes King Salmon, Traverse City was the destination of choice! Well it didn’t take long for Joe to capitalize on his first ever opportunity! He did a great job on the rod and was patient through the whole battle as this hog pulled out a few hundred feet of line.

Wow what a great morning! There was a lot of North wind as we sat at dock watching the wind rip through the Flag. I had a hardy crew they weren’t too worried so we went for it! They were paid off in a big way! We had a pretty late start so we went straight to fishing for Lake Trout. They were snappy! We boated 9 lake trout in under two hours of fishing loosing a handful behind the boat. We caught some monster Lake Trout as well, they really know how to pull! We landed two trout over 10 pounds and one was pushing 15!

We are starting to see some fishable numbers of King Salmon in the bays! While the Lake Trout bite continues to be fantastic, we are seeing some good salmon on our fish finders! This Salmon below was able to find a little walleye for her last meal! But she was no match for Joe as he wrangled her to the net after a wild battle!

We had another fantastic fishing charter here in Traverse City. We managed to get a nice King Salmon to the boat first thing, continued to fish them for rest the morning without much success. Today was another glorious morning on West Bay. We were met by some stiff South West winds, and a light mist as I set lines. That mist quickly went out of our minds after we got a bite after all the lines were set. After that no mist the winds seemed to dissipate through the morning as we pecked away catching some fish. The bite was definitely a little slower than I expected but we still ended up with a nice box of Lake Trout, even caught a bonus smallmouth bass!

We encountered a lot of unexpected North wind this morning! We were supposedly through the worst of it after yesterdays big blow, and storms. But we were not as excited when we say the flags whipping in the wind. Traverse City is such a unique place to experience a fishing charter. With the wind absolutely whipping we were still able to get out and enjoy a great morning on the water. It was a little bumpy but it was no problem! No bites from any silver fish but we did extremely well on some world class lake trout! We decided to try for strictly for salmon the first two hours with no success. Made a move switched a few lures and the bite was on! We managed a 4 person limit in under two hours of fishing for Lake Trout! Traverse City fishing charters are going to continue to be great for the rest of the season! August sneaking up on us that means our annual salmon run is almost here as well!

With the big north blow yesterday we were not sure what to expect as we went out this morning. We were after salmon for the first two hours, with not much success unfortunately. But we did manage to have two bites, one clean break off and one that pulled line and was gone. We made the switch to lake trout and it was game on. As I watched the fish finder through the morning I noticed more and more salmon compared to what we have been seeing. With the amount of current I feel they were turned off a little. I’m hoping with a little time let the water settle in we should see some more consistent action on salmon!

Traverse City King Salmon season is under way! We are not seeing many of them at this time but we there are some big fish showing up! We broke a personal record on any of my boats, even before when I was working on other boats mating growing up! A lot of hours and years on the water for this to be the biggest. I told my customer how special this fish was, so he will never forget it. He is going a head with getting the fish mounted! I was super happy for Mike and the crew, great family and we had a great trip! We are fishing primarily Lake Trout at this time but fishing Salmon as we fish trout.
