May 7 2018 Traverse City Fishing Report

Even tho the Storm Hawk isn’t in the water yet I still have a good fishing report. Talking to a few friends that were out this weekend sounded like the Fishing was really good!!

East bay anywhere from 20-150 feet I heard of fish being caught. Planer boards with short segments of lead core paired with Warrior Flutter spoons that was the shallow program. The down riggers took over when you got deeper Fishing close to bottom there are a lot of fish out there!!

West bay bay in downtown Traverse City has similar fishing at the moment from the sounds of it. Both sides of the bay have fish on them Fishing same program planer boards with Flutter spoons in the shallows, Downriggers for the deeper stuff. Dodgers, spin doctors, cow bells on the down riggers the normal stuff! The Fishing Is only going to get better!

The Storm Hawk will be going in this week! Ready for business this weekend! Motors have been gone through and running great!! See you on the water!

Leland Lake Trout Fishing

Had a great time fun fishing with my dad yesterday out of Leland! We caught a bunch of trout in 30-50 feet of water! Down riggers by bottom and lead cores with spoons 5, 7, 10 colors all caught fish. Michigan Stinger Spoons were the best lures blue, green dolphins. We fished the shoreline of Good Harbor Bay and had a nice relaxed trip. Cant wait to get the big boat in the water to officially start off the charter fishing season! 2018 is going to be a fantastic year!!

King Salmon in Traverse City

The bays are loaded with salmon right now! They seem to be anywhere south of Red 8 bouy, but most concentrated in the “Hole” which is typical this time of year. But the fishing is great, and they have been biting pretty good!

Traverse City Salmon

Had a date night with Mackenzie last night! We fished for 2 hours had a lot of fun and caught some nice fish. This big king salmon pictured below was the first of the trip! I picked out 5 lures and told Mackenzie she could pick one out. She picked a good one, a custom Big Weenie Brand flasher and meat rig combo I had made a few years ago. Its been one of my best meat rigs in my tackle box ever since! We took 4 kings and 1 Coho Salmon in our short trip. It was a beautiful night to be on Traverse City’s West Grand Traverse Bay, meat rigs on divers and riggers were our best.

Traverse City fishing!

Fished the hole to start the morning. We went 1-5 on salmon strikes kind of disappointing on that aspect! But we made the move to target trout pretty early on in the morning since we had a youngster on the boat. We made the move and they were not disappointed with the decision. We loaded up on a limit of trout fast. Fishing 120-130 feet of water by the weather bouy. The hole we took most of our bites on the north end of the hole away from the boat traffic. It was the Traverse City Salmon Classic Women’s day tournament so it was busy on the south side of West Bay. Plugs in all glow were the best, flasher fly double glow spin doctor with green glow fly took two bites on a diver back 110. Looking forward to our luck in the main event of the Salmon Classic this weekend!

First King in the box! Storm Hawk Sport Fishing

Traverse City Fishing is great!

Got a nice box of fish this morning, action started slow and got better as the morning wore on. Finished the morning with 5 kings, 2 coho, 3 cisco, and 1 lake trout. Best part is we didn’t have to fight the boat traffic, we fished the west side of the bay all morning just trolled around. It was a nice relaxed morning, meat rigs, flasher/fly, and plugs were all good. Lead core in 5 color was good high divers back 145 and 160 with plugs. Low divers with meat rigs like the one pictured below!  Fished from 100-180 all the way to Lee point and back. Didn’t mark a lot of fish but when we did they bite pretty good!

Lake Trout and Meat Rigs

Fished a afternoon targeting Lake Trout. They did not want my normal Lake Trout offerings, fishing the same areas I have had success all  year in Traverse City. I decided to throw out one of my favorite meat rigs, Big Weenie Brands Spotted Dick Glow put it by bottom and wham it was one. It took two fish consecutively, I went on to throw down the matching meat rig just UV and it was on! I usually don’t have to fish meat rigs for trout but for what ever reason they were really chewing on them! When in doubt put the meat rigs out!

August 11 Traverse City Fishing Report

Fished the bottom half of the bay today. Red 8 south all morning, started in the hole. Got three kings in the first two hours before we trolled out hunting for some active fish. White Crush Spin Doctor with a Big Weenie Artic Blast took two bites in the hole landed one that was on a wire diver back 140. Downrigger down 55 paired with a Ace Hi plug in Blue Splatter took a fish early. Big Weenie Brand Spotted Dick meat rig took the other 130 back on a diver. Trolled out of the hole setting some long lines and high divers. High diver with a silver spoon with a piece of tape took a nice king late in the morning back 185 by the weather bouy. We also took another fish on a 250 copper with a Blue Dolphin spoon. Two trout were boated in the process fishing suspended marks, a good morning on the water. There are salmon concentrated in the hole but get turned off early and have lock jaw. Don’t be afraid to go a little north and look around for some fish they tend to bite a lot better!

Traverse City Salmon Fishing

We had a great morning on West Grand Traverse Bay! We ended up landing 5 King Salmon and a few Lake Trout while continuing our hunt for the King Salmon. Spoons seemed to be the preferred diet for both Salmon and Trout. While a E Chip fly on a dipsey took two bites the rest were on Moonshine Spoons, or Michigan Stinger Blue Dolphin/Green Dolphin. Fishing 55-70 down anywhere south of Red 8 bouy is where we fished. Floated around never concentrating in one area.

Traverse City Trophy Lake Trout

Wow is right thing to say after todays amazing fishing! We caught a really nice box of fish including the biggest of the season! Charlie did a great job as this fish hit a 1o Color of Lead Core! So it is a long ways out there before we even get a chance to start the battle! He locked in and made it happen, this giant was apart of a triple the other trout got to the boat before we even could get his planer board off! Pretty amazing fish, after trying to revive this trophy for a few minutes we had to throw it in the cooler.
