Grace called with one objective she wanted to catch a big fish. We went out this afternoon in hunt of a big King Salmon in Traverse City’s West Grand Traverse Bay. We set our lines and we trolled on she told me she wanted to go for glory rather than numbers. So here we go mid day looking for some kings, and it paid off! This pig smoked a Big Weenie Brand Spotted Dick UV meat rig on the downrigger 70 down. It put up a great fight but it was no match for Grace! Victorious Great job!

We had a great morning on the water. We ended with nice box of Lake Trout, and our first King Salmon of the season. Fished the west side of the bay and had success from Red 8 up to windows. 60-100 feet of water. Spoons on copper long lines and flasher flys on down riggers did the best. The King Salmon hit on a 10 color of lead core with a Green Dolphin Stinger. 

We had a late start this morning. But the fishing sure was great!!! We caught a limit of nice healthy Lake Trout, with this bonus… Drum? It was the biggest I had seen! We caught it in West Bay fishing by Power Island in 30 feet of water. We threw that one back!!! 

Had a good bite on Coho Salmon today while fishing kings. We ended up with a mixed bag with a 50/50 split deep divers were the ticket today. One had a Fish scale paddle as shown below the other white crush spin doctor and they took all of our bites this morning. The fishing is still hanging on strong!!

I didn’t have a charter and I wanted to go make a few passes down in the hole. I Figure the season is almost done should go fishing!!! So here are the results caught 3 Kings and 1 Coho this morning. Ran a down rigger down 55 with a Clown Plug, and Double White Crush Spin Doctor on the diver back 130 they both took shots at the fish. It was a lot of fun its a lot of work trying to do it all on your own!! Here is my first ever attempted #salmonselfie give me a call if you want to check this fishery out. It truly is world class, we still have another few weeks of good fishing!

Missed big time on the Kings this morning. Not sure what happed, not a lot of fish were caught in the hole but it was a big surprise. We only had two short strikes weird how that happens! Lucky for us the Lake Trout sure were snappy!!! I didn’t change anything from Salmon Fishing, just set the same baits and they worked. A nice limit of trout made for lots of smiles cant get the salmon every day!

Another steady trip. Started off slow made a few tweaks to how we were targeting the salmon and we got them going.  Managed to land 4 and only loosing 1. We were lucky to land as many as we did tonight from the reports other captains were giving. This kings last meal was Big Weenie Brands Spotted Dick meat rig. 

 

Had a really fun morning. We caught a good handful of King Salmon through the morning, 90% of our bites were on Spinny flies. The only plug bite was on a all white Ace High late in the morning. White crush was good all morning as well was the stand by Blue Bubble. Fishing down 40 in the morning to as deep as 80 later in the morning. A lot of fish in the hole right now!!!

Fishing Report Traverse City:

 

Fished last night it was very good fishing. Had a charter cancellation due to  weather I mean tsunami! We decided to go knowing the rain/thunder wasn’t going to last. It did not take long, we hooked into a double in the first half hour! After fishing two and a half hours we managed to land six Salmon and lost three others. Blue Bubble Spin Doctor on one diver the other was paired up with a Big Weenie Brand “No Fish Nick” meat rig. Down rigger with a Pearl Ace High plug took two bites on a down rigger down 62 feet. Fished right outside the Boardman river in the hole the West Bank was best for us.
