We had a really fun day on the water today. We ended up in 3rd place in the event Mackenzie took home top honors for biggest ladies fish! We caught a steelhead, lost two others. One of the steelhead was right behind the boat when he made one last jump. If we got that one we would of been looking at a repeat to win, but we still had a great time! Congrats to Team Streaker, and True Blue on first and second!

Well it sure was a fun weekend! After day 1 we sat in 4th place which is a great place to be in a tournament going into day 2.We had a few mistakes which cost us nice size fish behind the boat day 1. So I figured if we could land those bites day 2 we would have a great shot to be in the drivers seat to possibly win the tournament. Unfortunately day 2 was not our day, it was a extremely tough bite. We only managed to put 1 small King Salmon in the boat. We went trout fishing mid way through the morning lost 5 consecutive trout which I knew that was a bad omen. We managed to catch two trout that were too big to keep due to the slot limit and only land two trout we could keep. We didn’t even manage to land the tournament limit! All I can say is it happens, still had a fun time through the course of the weekend. Still managed to land inside the top ten for the tournament some how! Great fun thanks to Steveo for putting it on!! Also congrats to my good friend Captain Adam on the Mega Bite on the win!
Had a lot of fun fishing the women’s tournament. We had lady luck on our side this morning after the girls were able to take home top honors, this year. They did a great job finishing it off late in the morning after a lot of miscues during the morning rush we were only sitting on 4 kings. Which was not going to cut it, we needed to get the lucky number 5 and after a big jump by Mackenzie to untangle the fish from the down rigger she was able to get it in the net. Pretty fun way to end the morning, we are looking forward to competing in the main event this weekend. I have one of my regular customers chartering the boat for the tournament should make it interesting!
Fished the Manistee Salmon Splash over the weekend. Chartered the tournament with some family friends, we had a fantastic time all weekend. However pre fishing went well with me and “Moose” we felt confident that we had as good of chance as anyone. The guys showed up on the boat tournament morning and decided it was time for a cocktail while we were pulling out of the slip (A screwdriver they went on to tell me it had orange juice so it was fine)
Setting lines we had instant action two misses on the set. Finally got everything set and I hit the wheel as Moose set the last copper. And wham strike number three… The 450 copper starts peeling line like i haven’t heard in a while paired up with a Big Weenie meat rig pictured below.. The fight was on from there until someone decided the drag wasn’t tight enough and broke it off with in seconds of the drag tighten. I wont name any names cough cough “Moose”. We shrug it off and went on to have great action all day, we had better action than any boat we spoke too after day one. We lost over 20 fish and at least 10 of those bites were mature Kings. But that’s how fishing goes especially tournament fishing. We only managed to put 3 King Salmon in the boat through day 1 and decided not to weigh them in as it is a 3 biggest fish tournament over 2 days we went all in on day 2.
Day 2 brought wind thunder storms and waves, lots of them. After having two different weather delays I was shocked they sent us to fish. I was in process of getting ready to get the boat on the trailer to head home when I got the call. I called the crew and away we went. It was sporty out on the lake. We fished for 2 hours with out a bite most boats did not even land a fish on day 2. Disappointing weekend on the tournament aspect but we had a blast pre fishing and making fun of the crew on day 2.
What a great on the water. We were able to take home 1st place in the Traverse City Trout Derby today. We started the day slow not catching any fish in the size range we truly needed. Made a move to plan B and that really didn’t work out.. Plan C paid off big time as we had double after double after double to find the right size class of fish. We had fish to big and a few absolutely perfect size for the slot limit.

Well we had a ok weekend on the water. Not where we want to be but a 6th place finish in the main event and a 4th in the 333 championship Series. So it sure could of been worse!!! We left a few fish out there for my upcoming charters so that’s a bonus!!!
We had too much fun in Frankfort this weekend fishing the new Battle At the Betsie tournament. We even convinced a fellow Traverse City charter boat to come bring his boat out and try his luck! We ended up in 7th place in the main event as well as the 333 tournament, our goal was to place in the top 5 and it turned out we had the fish right behind the boat that would of shot us up the leader board into the top 3 if we managed to get it in the net. But that’s tournament fishing its part of the fun and excitement. Meat rigs, and flasher flys dominated our spread as we boated 8 salmon day 1 of the tournament and 6 salmon two trout day 2.
We had a good outing at the Traverse City Trout Derby today! Ended up in 3rd place in the event we had a great relaxed morning on the water. Lots of doubles and triples had the right trout that fit the slot limit by 8 A.M. we fished for steelhead the remainder of the day with zero success chasing after them. But that is ok Congrats to team “True Blue” from East Bay on the win!
Traverse City Womens Salmon Classic:
The team was able to win the Traverse City Womens Salmon Classic. Landing 10 king Salmon in a matter of two hours and only loosing a few fish! The win was very close however only squeaked it out by half a pound! We were drenched after the down pour by the time the rain stopped we had ten king salmon we went in.

We had shaky weather to start the day, after a two hour delay we were allowed to fish. We had a extremely slow start to the day but managed to finish strong! Myles, my little brother top honors for the biggest youth fish! We ended up with a 6th place finish which isn’t necessarily where we wanted to be but happy for Myles! Most importantly we had a fantastic time!
